Who We Are

You Are Not Broken, and You Don't Have to Carry This Alone

Trauma lives in your body long after the event itself. Whether it came from one overwhelming moment or years of pressure—the kind that accumulates quietly in communities like ours along the bayou, where people work hard and carry a lot—reaching out doesn't mean you have to name it perfectly or have it all figured out. You just need to feel less trapped by it. That's enough to start.

At Integrative Recovery Therapies, we begin where you are right now, not where you think you should be. We build safety and understanding first, at your pace, never pushing you to talk about what happened before you're ready. As your nervous system settles and you feel more grounded in your own life, we move deeper—but only when you say so. That's how real change takes hold.

Why Clients Choose IRT

Trauma Support Built Around Houma, Not a Protocol

Houma's residents know firsthand what it means to rebuild after Hurricane Ida, Katrina, and other storms that have tested this community's strength. Trauma counseling matters here because weathering repeated disasters leaves real marks—on your nervous system, your sense of safety, your ability to trust that things will hold. A counselor who understands what it's like to live in a place where nature has demanded so much of you can help you process those experiences and find solid ground again.

Safety and Consent First

We move toward deeper processing only when you feel resourced enough, never before you're ready.

Treated Like Family

A small team by design. You'll never be passed around or treated like a number.

Never Shaming

Non-punitive, always. We don't use shame as a tool, and we're direct with care.

Insurance-Friendly Access

Louisiana Medicaid, Medicare, and most major commercial plans accepted.

How It Works

Your First Steps in Trauma Counseling

Your first sessions are about listening. We spend time understanding what you need and learning from your past experiences with help, what worked and what didn't. You set the pace. We won't rush into difficult details. Your nervous system guides how fast we move, not a timeline.

01

Reach Out

A real member of our team, often one of our founders, responds personally to understand what's going on.

02

Stabilization & Skills

Building grounding, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance so daily life becomes more manageable.

03

Processing & Integration

Gently addressing traumatic material, only with consent, in a way that reduces intensity and restores choice.

04

Reconnection

Strengthening identity, relationships, and values-based living so your life isn't organized around what happened.

Common Questions

Questions From Houma Clients

Integrative Recovery Therapies serves clients throughout Houma and the surrounding area, including Gray, Chauvin, Schriever, Galliano, and Thibodaux. We offer trauma counseling through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth for folks who prefer to work from home, and we also have an in-person office in Metairie if that works better for your schedule. Either way, we're here to help you get the support you need.

Yes. We work with Louisiana Medicaid, Medicare, and most major commercial insurance plans. Our team will verify your specific benefits before your first session, and we're transparent about costs from the start.

No. Trauma counseling can start with stabilization, coping skills, and understanding your current symptoms. We move toward deeper processing with your consent and at a pace that supports safety.

We currently are unable to offer support for schizophrenia and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. For most other concerns, including PTSD, complex trauma, and co-occurring substance use, we treat them alongside anything else going on.

You Don't Have to Carry This Alone.

Taking that first step can feel both relieving and uncertain - that's completely normal. When you reach out, we'll simply talk about what's happening and what kind of support might work for you right now. There's no pressure to dive deep before you're ready. You're in control here, and we'll move at your pace.
